Fooled

March has fooled me once again. I believed that since it was March, spring was close and we would be over sickness. Such is not the case. All four are down for the count, sporting high fevers. The kind of sickness that creates many tears, ruby cheeks, glassy eyes, and lack of sleep for all involved. I struggle to cuddle and meet each of their many needs while sick. They want to be held and the sickness taken away. I do my best to hold each of them, comfort them, and ease their discomfort. Despite caring for the sick children we were able to accomplish something this past weekend. The drab bathroom was turned into a cheery, monkey themed one. The bright lemony yellow walls are cheerful and bring smiles to our faces upon entering. We let the kids, of course, help pick out the shade of yellow. Having that involvement makes their bathroom more meaningful for them. Zane is faring the best, having had only a fever for a little over a day. He is back to being all smiles, and even met a very cute friend this weekend. Mirrors and babies are just too cute! I am optimistic that Wednesday brings one more sweet child out from under the blanket of sickness and we continue to get better as the week progresses.

A Moment

Today Zane fell asleep at the end of his nursing session. I usually put him down for a nap, but chose to just hold him and drink in all that is baby. I turned some TV (yeah, I know, whatever, it works for some time to keep the others still and quiet) on for Noelle, Max, and Violette, put my feet up in the recliner and loved on Zane. He's definitely not a newborn, having turned five months on Saturday, but he's still all baby. Sleeping his best in my arms, and loving being held. Very much still a baby.

So I wrapped my arms around his rotund middle and brought him near my face. Then I inhaled. Took a big breath of Zane and closed my eyes and let the smell fill my nostrils. It was magical. I continued to sit there and enjoy Zane's sweet smell. My cheeks rubbed against the softness that is his face. His chubby hand gripped my finger and my thumb gently rubbed the dimples on the back of his hand. I rubbed his bald (he's still lacking hair) head. The softness of his head is indescribable.

It didn't last long as Violette decided to join my baby drunkenness. She pursed her lips and kissed Zane's bald head and snuggled into my other side. Noelle and Max also climbed on to the chair as well, all of us enjoying a sleeping Zane. They get it. They understand how special our time is to just enjoy being still and content with one another.

Soon the shuffling of the three older ones woke up Zane, he glanced around and smiled. Really smiled, a cheek splitting, full body smile. He adores his older siblings and seeing them all around him makes him, and I, happy.

The magic baby smelling session was short lived, but it ended with me surrounded by all four of my blessings. All five of us together, giggling and smiling at each other. Touching each other with love, little fingers intertwined in mine. It turned into a magic moment of a mother and her four children treasuring their time, our time, together.

Since I didn't take pictures I will end this post with a few pictures of my now five month old Zane Michael.

A Little Party Action

Grandma came down and Aunt Ceecee and Uncle Mike came over to have a little party for Violette's birthday. We decorated the house and ordered a fun cake for her. Violette received a small battery operated four wheeler from Grandma and Grandpa Goodhue that has been a huge hit with all the children. It was great to have some family around and enjoy the day. We all have been missing everyone greatly after their departure on Saturday.

Celebration of our two year old is complete and was a success.

She's 2, and Not So Terrible!

Violette Adelle has turned 2 at 1:36pm today. She is a fireball, full of expressions, and tons of adorableness, and attitude, and a fiery personality. Over the past year she is grown leaps and bounds and come into her own. She has become Violette. She has made herself known and solidified her order in the family. A year ago, describing her was easy. She was an easy child. Easy going, smiley, happy, and go with the flow, was her way.

That is not Violette any more. Smiley, yes. Happy, yes. Not so easy going any more. With age comes communication and now Violette stands up for what she wants. Noelle and Max can no longer tell her what to do. Her opinion matters, and she makes it known. Her vocabulary is not what Noelle and Max's was at this age, but we see dramatic improvement weekly from her. Having older siblings that would get and do things did not require words from her. She is making up for it now, adding many words on a weekly basis. The new expansion of vocabulary has brought on much defiance.

Although defiant, she is still Princess of Expressions. Her eye brows are captivating, arching high and expanding her little eyes, bringing so much to her little face. When she's mad the eye brows get deeply furrowed, slanting her eyes into an evil glare (that is definitely a Mommy thing!) that she usually is sending Max's way.

Here are things that I want to remember about Violette Adelle at this point in time:

*Favorite Phrases/words: "Max did it!", "2 more minutes.", "I hungey", "Dop it"
*Favorite Foods: "Chocey milk", "Toaster Studel"
*Favorite Attachments: "2 nannies" (2 pink blankets), "fuffa" (pacifier which will be gone very soon)

*She has become a fan of hitting, biting, and scratching to defend herself from the older two
*"Dis, Dat, Mine, Me do, Mommy do" are heard frequently
*When watching TV, walking through stores she points out things and will say, "Me want dat", "Max want dat" or "Well (Noelle) want dat" to the appropriate toy.
* She calls Noelle "Well Belle" or "Well" and pronounces Max, "Matz"
* She loves to give Zane kisses, usually insisting at the most inopportune moments and won't rest until she gets her "baby disses".
*At her 2 year well check up she was 22 lbs. and 35 inches putting her in the tenth percentile for weight and 95th for height!

I'm sure there are things I am missing, things I should be noting for future reference, but Violette is wonderful and is a lovely third child that fits perfectly in our family. That is good enough!

We are having a party on Saturday for her and more pictures will come from that day. For now I will end this with a wonderful morning picture of all four children, together, enjoying each other, just as I like it.

Celebration Of Chub

Zane is chubby. He is a large baby. At his four month appointment he weighed in at 17lbs. 1 oz. and was just shy of 27 inches, putting him in the 90th percentile for height and weight. He weighs more at four months than Noelle did at one year!

I hold him and just stare at his wrist rolls and sausage toes, drinking in all his healthiness. It's intoxicating and adorable!

His cheeks seem to conform around his pacifier when sucking on it. They are wider than his head! But man they certainly are very kissable and beg to be stroked with gentle, loving hands.
He's cute though, and we love and celebrate every inch of his chubby body!

Saturday With Grandpa R

Grandpa Roehrig came today! It's always a good day when Grandpa R comes to visit. We all have a lot of fun. Plus, he knows we (especially me) love chocolate and brings really great large, melt-in-your-mouth, chocolate cookies from a bakery close to his house. Great company and huge cookies, you know the day is going to be a good one!

The kids played, read, played some more and just really enjoyed themselves.

It was a good Saturday and we ended the evening with a family movie night. Blankets, pillow pets, and relaxation.

We still have Sunday, together. The weekends rock! They are the glue that holds our family together!

Bright Spots

This week was a long one. Most weeks I can name hand fulls of stick out moments. Moments, that melt my heart the first time around and when writing/talking about them bring tears and gigantic smiles to my face. Not this week, there were not many. I got sick with strep, fever, chills, and I was miserable. The children, feeling off and not themselves, were unforgiving. Fighting, taunting, and demanding just touches the tip of the ice berg. I cried, they cried. The minuets seemed like hours when my fever peaked.

There were very few pictures taken, but the few that were are my bright spots. My boys, smiling, dawning matching gray sweats and navy blue shirts. It makes me smile and melts away the long week.

Violette sporting her first set of pigtails. Another bright spot.
Uploading these makes the memories of sickness fade into the wonderfulness of beautiful children. We will have more of these weeks and I will focus on my bright spots, my children to get me through them.
